Mercedes has officially revealed the W16, the car that will be used by George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
The team highlighted that the model features significant changes compared to the W15, the last car before the regulatory change in the category.
The team principal, Toto Wolff, stated that the goal is to make the team more competitive and capable of consistently fighting for wins, after a season where they only won four out of 24 races and finished fourth in the constructors’ championship.
According to technical director James Allison, Mercedes’ focus in building the W16 was to correct issues from the previous model, such as difficulties in slow corners and inconsistencies in tire temperatures. To address this, the team made adjustments to the aerodynamics, front suspension, and other areas of the car. Meanwhile, the team is already working on the engine development for 2026, considering the upcoming regulatory changes. Therefore, the 2025 season will serve as a period of adjustments for the next car project.
The new W16 from Mercedes, whose paint scheme was revealed during a Formula 1 event, will take part in preseason testing, which will take place throughout the week at the Sakhir circuit, alongside the other teams.
The championship officially starts on March 16, with the first race in Australia.
