Toyota RAV4 2026 debuts with hybrid engine and more powerful 320 hp plug-in version (Instagram @toyota)
The Toyota RAV4 2026 arrives fully renewed and, for the first time, will be sold only with hybrid powertrains.
The new generation of the best-selling compact SUV in the United States retires the combustion engine versions, offering as standard a conventional hybrid system up to 236 hp (with all-wheel drive) and, optionally, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain that now delivers 320 hp. This more powerful version also features fast charging and an extended electric range of about 80 km.
Besides the updated mechanics, the new RAV4 presents visual changes inside and out, with a more modern design, new LED headlight and taillight signatures, and an interior with fewer physical buttons and more screen-based controls. The gear lever was replaced by an electronic selector in some models, freeing up more space on the center console. The towing capacity also increased to up to 1,588 kg on all-wheel-drive versions.
The lineup has been reorganized into three main groups: Core (LE, XLE, and Limited), with a simpler look and only hybrid powertrains; Rugged (Woodland), with off-road tires, a robust look, and a PHEV option; and Sport (SE, XSE, and the new GR Sport), focused on performance and a sportier look.
Toyota has not yet announced official prices, but it is expected that the entry-level model will start around $34,000, while the top-of-the-line GR Sport PHEV version could exceed $51,000.
