This nearly 30-year-old McLaren F1 could sell for more than US$20 million at the auction to be held during next month’s Monterey Car Week.
The F1 was purchased new by Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle, but the 1997 model has had a total of three owners. During this time, they accumulated only 10,460 kilometers driven.
Over its almost 30 years, it has undergone some upgrades, such as a new sport exhaust, an air conditioning system, updated radiators, and an aluminum fuel tank.

In 2023, it received additional services, including transmission rebuild, new spark plugs, and four new tires on the original magnesium wheels.
The F1 also got a new battery, windshield replacement, and some repairs done by McLaren Philadelphia on the gold leaf that lines the engine compartment around the 6.1-liter V-12.
The McLaren, one of seven imported to the United States, is painted in Magnesium Silver and features black leather interior with a gray driver’s seat.

RM Sotheby’s will be responsible for the auction during next month’s Monterey Car Week. The auction house expects to sell it for an impressive US$23 million. If sold at the estimated price, the McLaren F1 could become one of the most expensive ever sold.
